Willie is the creation of the sculpturist, Guillermo Forchino, who studied art restoration at the Sorbonne. Since the 1980s, Forchino has used silicone and polyresin to lend permanence to his papier maché originals, including sculptures akin to the world of comic strips, the weird, and the funny, including cars that are overloaded with baggage standing on flat tires, rusty boats, and broken down planes as well as motorcycles patched together with metal wire and bathtubs. His characters--"Guerillmo le Cuisinier" for sure--are spirited and badly shaven.
By enlarging the picture, notice the attention to detail, including how much Willie is enjoying the perfection of his denté spaghetti--note the fingers on his right hand--yet is oblivious not only to the spills on his apron but also to what's on the floor: an spilt can of garlic-stuffed olives, spaghetti and raviolis, a broken egg, as well as the tube of tomato paste beneath Willie's shoe that's spattered its contents on the floor.
