LSP is aimed it empowering the poor and empower it has! For the 2013-2014 school year, 12k children--90% of whom are Black--applied for the scholarships and ~5k are using them to attend private schools.
Parents love LSP. 93%+ of families receiving scholarships are pleased with their children's academic progress. 99.3% believe the schools their children attend are safe.
Couldn't get any better, could it?
Not for President Obama's Department of Injustice (DOIj) (read: Eric Holder) which continues its efforts to stop LSP. In August 2013, DOIj filed a motion to enjoin the program. The problem? LSP changes the racial composition of school districts and is in violation of court-ordered desegregation from decades back.
It is true that DOIj later withdrew the motion. Yet, DOIj merely refocused its efforts. The Obama DOIj now demands detailed information from Louisiana concerning the racial composition of the schools that voucher students are leaving and the composition of the schools to which the students are moving.
DOIj absolutely knows what it's doing--and that's to terminate LSP. How so?
Louisiana education officials argue that the sheer volume of information requested, combined with the time and cost associated with fighting DOIj in court litigation, threatens to destroy LSP.
In a Wall Street Journal article, Clink Bolick notes that past Civil Rights-era decisions concerning which DOIj rely on when advocating for the abolition of LSP had to do with state acations that discriminate against Blacks. Today, LSP provides opportunities for Black families to send their children to schools that are superior to their local public schools.
Those parents and children receiving LSP scholarships are on the receiving end of all that "hope and change" and "social justice" that President Obama touts. It's called "educational inequality." Keep an eye on what he's intent on doing with "income inequality."
Let the discussion begin...
