WalletHub has published a study measuring the quality and efficiency of state government services compared to state and local tax rates. Factoring into the calculations were: education, health, safety, economy and pollution.
The states in which residents receive the most "bang for their tax $$$s"?
- Wyoming, Alaska, South Dakota, Washington, North Dakota, Colorado, Florida, Texas, Utah, and Massachusetts.
The states in which residents receive the worst "bang for their tax $$$s"?
- Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, the District of Columbia, North Carolina, West Virginia, Tennessee, California, Alabama, and Kentucky.
Evidently, being a "low tax" or a "high tax" state doesn't seem to correlate with quality and efficiency of state government services. Neither does being a "red state" (e.g., Wyoming and Kentucky) or a "blue state" (e.g., Massachusetts and California).
Let the discussion begin...
