Another wacko conservative heretic spewing misogynist talking points?
Let's consider some of Moore's data:
- President Obama has been asserting on the stump that women earn 77 cents for every $1 that men earn. But, that's comparing all women with all men. Controlling for work experience and education, there's a 5% pay gap between males and females, according to data reported by the President's Department of Labor. Discount the riskier and unpleasant jobs that men perform and women don't. Lo and behold, the wage gap disappears!
- Among college graduates, there is no pay discrepancy between men and women. Currently, 53% of college students and close to 60% of graduate students are women. If pay continues to rise with educational attainment, women may soon be earning higher wages than men.
Moore believes the real pay crisis is the opposite of the President's faux pay crisis: Men's wages. Since 1980, wages paid to men--the chief breadwinners in most of the nation's families--have risen only 6% (that's .176%/year). But, women's wages during that same period have risen by 60% (that's 1.76%/year). That's a women's wages trumping men's wages by factor of 10! Call it "wages redistribution."
With the facts supporting his assertions, Stephen Moore is no wacko conservative heretic. It's the wacko liberal heretics who are playing gender politics with the so-called "gender pay gap." Wouldn't it be refreshing if they would come to conclusions using something other than their ideology...like facts?
