According to Economics 21, when Omar Gonzalez scaled the White House fence and burst through the front door of the President's residence, the United States Secret Service (USSS) agent guarding the entry was unable to tackle him.
Why? The USSS agent was a female.
The Director of Economics 21, Diana Furchtgott-Roth, has put her finger directly on the problem:
[W]hen it comes to matters of security, President Obama and the
public deserve the best. That means political correctness—appointing
less-qualified women for the sake of diversity—should take a back
seat to ability.
Since 1971, women have served as USSS agents. But, the USSS physical ability standards aren't gender-neutral, this despite the fact that USSS agents of both genders guard the President.
For example, the Applicant Physical Abilities Test (APAT) is gender-neutral, consisting of push-ups, sit-ups, and a short and long distance run. APAT is the first fitness screening mechanism. However, the Physical Fitness Evaluation—required of USSS agents—every quarter differs, as women and men are held to different standards.
- To be scored "good," men aged 30 to 39 are required to perform between 41 and 49 push-ups in a single minute, 8 or 9 chin-ups, 39 to 42 sit-ups, and a 1.5-mile run in under 12 minutes and 20 seconds.
- To be scored "good," women must perform 25 to 29 push-ups, 3 chin-ups, and 29 to 34 sit-ups. They have 15+ minutes to perform the 1.5-mile run.
Thus, a male USSS agent completing the 1.5-mile run in 13:42 is scored "poor." But a femal USSS agent completing the run in the identical amount of time is scored "excellent."
This disparity is pervasive across the United States in a variety of important roles that concern the security and safety of citizens. For example, the Army and Marine Corps have similar gender-based standards, as do police and fire departments. As Furchtgott-Roth rightly notes, "When it comes to apprehending criminals, strength matters."
Long ago, the wizards of smart and their dogma of political correctness trumped "fitness for duty." Cow-towing to their goddess of gender equality, the USSS has demonstrated for all to behold that doing so has made the USSS less capable of fulfilling its important mission.
Only in Amerika.
