For the past six years, the President has expended spent a lot of political capital to stop the Keystone XL pipeline from being constructed:
- The House has passed 9 bills approving the pipeline or trying to speed up the approval process, none of which he allowed to pass the then-Democratic controlled Senate.
- The delay the President has caused now amounts to ~2.4k days and 40k construction jobs would certainly help lift the nation’s high unemployment numbers. Apparently that doesn't matter to the President.
The threatened veto will require the President to spend more political capital, if the President and those who worship at the altar of environmentalism are honest with themselves.
As reported by the New York Times, President Obama’s State Department has determined that the Keystone XL pipeline would have no impact on carbon pollution. However, the delay in constructing the Keystone XL pipeline and the specter of a presidential veto means releasing more carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions into the Earth’s atmosphere. Those allegedly are the primary cause for the melting of the polar ice cap and killing off all of those poor polar bears, driving them to the point of extinction.
Yet, the dirty little secret is that, as long as the Keystone XL pipeline project is delayed (requiring that oil be transported via 415 rail cars), 7.4M additional tons of carbon dioxide will be released into the atmosphere, according to an American Action Forum study.
Seems they will do everything they can to get their way even if it means increasing the threat of extinction posed to the polar bears.
Let the discussion begin...
