Concerning forgiveness: At the recent Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa, The Donald discussed attending church. His comments helped those in the audience to understand better his theology of forgiveness and sacramentality.
It is pretty clear that Trump isn't actually religious. He might go to church every now and then, but he doesn’t really care….In other words, Donald Trump may be our greatest hope for a non-religious President.
Not to mention Trump sounds like he’s talking about the Catholic Church version of communion while promoting himself to evangelicals, despite actually being Presbyterian.
So, it's pretty clear that, as President of the United States, The Donald wouldn't attend services regularly—but absolutely would on Christmas and Easter—he would partake of Holy Communion, and he would believe himself forgiven through the Blood of Christ for falling short in terms of holiness of life by going out and "try and do a better job from there...I just try and make it right." All of that sounds to The Motley Monk pretty much like Ronald Reagan's theology of forgiveness and sacramentality.
But, The Donald is also putting some flesh on the bones of his bibliology.
Concerning the Bible: The Donald collects bibles, placing every one of them in what he calls "a very nice place." He also respects the Bible and even distributes some of them:
There's no way I would ever throw anything, to do anything negative to a Bible. I would have a fear of doing something other than very positive, so actually I store them and keep them and sometimes give them away to other people but I do get sent a lot of Bibles and I like that. I think that's great.
And then, as if time suddenly switched into slow motion, The Donald said it...
It's my second favorite book of all time. Do you know what my first is? The Bible! Nothing beats the Bible.
In the meantime, The Donald is having a great time out on the stump. And, so too are most of the people purchasing those tickets to be part of his audience. The Donald is providing some great political theater.
Let the discussion begin...
