What’s sexting? It’s the sending or receiving sexually explicit text messages or photos, usually with a cell phone.
- 88% sexted with at least one person during their lifetime;
- ~74% sexted when they were in a committed relationship;
- 43% sexted during a causal relationship; and,
- 12% sexted with someone else, while cheating on their partner.
The most interesting finding? Sexting may have some benefits as people who sexted more indicated higher levels of sexual satisfaction. While this is a preliminary finding, it may suggest that sexting can be used in couple’s therapy to improve communication or increase intimacy. Likewise, if sexting indicates relationship problems, counselors could identify and address those problems with couples.
Could it be possible that sexting in a committed relationship is a good thing?
