But, Synergy Pharmaceuticals (SGYP) is serious about the physical and emotional impact of one of the most common functional gastrointestinal disorders worldwide, chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC). “Idiopathic” means the cause of the constipation is unknown and it's estimated that 14% of the global population--including 33M Americans--are afflicted by CIC.
CIC's symptoms are infrequent, hard bowl movements and other physical symptoms, including straining, abdominal bloating, and discomfort. CIC can decrease an individual’s quality of life and increasing stress levels and anxiety.
To encourage conversation about, to allow people to express better, and to raise understanding about CIC's physical and emotional impact, SGYP has launched the "Poop Troop," a series of 14 animated emojis.
SGYP's Poop Troop is one element of the company's broader disease education initiative called "Confront Constipation." The Poop Troop emoji keyboard app is available for iOS and Android and can be downloaded for free from the Apple App Store and Google Play store. Once installed, the Poop Troop can be accessed directly from the standard keyboard page on a user’s smartphone.
SGYP's Senior Director of Marketing, Julie Holcombe, said:
Many people with CIC feel embarrassed or uncomfortable talking about their symptoms with those closest to them, so they often suffer in silence. Our hope is that the Poop Troop can help make difficult conversations easier for people with CIC, while raising awareness around the impact of CIC beyond those living with this complex disorder.
